The influence of teammates' shared mental models on team processes and performance was tested using 56 undergraduate dyads who "flew" a series of missions on a personal-computer-based flight-combat simulation. The authors both conceptually and empirically distinguished between teammates' task- and team-based mental models and indexed their convergence or "sharedness" using individually completed paired-comparisons matrices analyzed using a network-based algorithm. The results illustrated that both shared-team- and task-based mental models related positively to subsequent team process and performance. Furthermore, team processes fully mediated the relationship between mental model convergence and team effectiveness. Results are discussed in terms of the role of shared cognitions in team effectiveness and the applicability of different interventions designed to achieve such convergence. When dealing with optimal control problems to maximize the selectivity of reactions for fine chemical synthesis, representative kinetic and thermodynamic models should be available. While literature appears to be very extensive on theoretical approaches to solve the problem, examples presenting complete models of chemical transformations are scarce. This paper presents the identification of consecutive reactions carried out in a batch reactor. Material and energy balances, satisfying dynamical state evolutions in the temperature range 20-60°C are deduced, for concentrations of acrylonitrile ranging up to 1.6 kmol·m?3. The stoichiometric network is simplified into two reactions, one reversible and one irreversible. This paper examines the full costs, defined as the sum of private and social costs, of a high-speed rail system proposed
for a corridor connecting Los Angeles and San Francisco in California. The full costs include infrastructure, fleet capital
and operating expenses, the time users spend on the system, and the social costs of externalities, such as noise, pollution,
and accidents. Comparing these full costs to those of other competing modes contributes to the evaluation of the feasibility
of high-speed rail in the corridor. The paper concludes that high-speed rail is significantly more costly than expanding existing
air service, and marginally more expensive than auto travel. This suggests that high-speed rail is better positioned to serve
shorter distance markets where it competes with auto travel than longer distance markets where it substitutes for air.

Our hypothesis in this study was that in vitro disappearance of isoflavones from fecal or cecal contents of Golden Syrian hamsters paralleled the apparent absorption of these compounds, comparable with previous findings from in vitro human fecal incubations. Two studies were conducted to test this idea: one on in vitro fecal (study 1, n = 20/sex) and the other on in vitro cecal contents (study 2, n = 10/sex) ability to degrade isoflavones. According to HPLC analysis, urinary isoflavone excretion was significantly less by 2-4 fold in males compared with females in both studies. Fecal isoflavone excretion was not significantly different between sexes or isoflavones (study 1) and was <0.5% of ingested dose. In vitro anaerobic fecal isoflavone degradation rate constants from study 1 were minimal with no significant correlation between urinary and fecal isoflavone excretion. However, in vitro anaerobic cecal isoflavone degradation rate constants (study 2) were greater and significantly correlated with urinary excretion of daidzein (R = 0.90; p = 0.01) and genistein (R = 0.93; p = 0.004), but not glycitein (R = 0.50; p = 0.3). Both male and female hamsters showed a pattern of urinary isoflavone excretion similar to that found in humans (daidzein > genistein). Hamster in vitro cecal isoflavone degradation rate constants seemed to be analogous to human in vitro fecal isoflavone degradation rate constants for genistein and daidzein. The sex difference in isoflavone excretion in hamsters and the instability in glycitein excretion across studies coupled with the paucity of human data on this isoflavone deserve further investigation. 相似文献

The aim of the present work was to evaluate the contamination of some samples, taken from Moroccan wheat grains, by ochratoxin A (OTA), deoxynivalenol (DON) and the associated toxigenic fungi. Moreover, we focused on the influence of environmental factors on both the growth and OTA production by three strains of Aspergillus. The results showed that only few samples were contaminated by the two mycotoxins (2 samples for OTA and 7 for DON). The main isolated fungi belong to the Aspergillus, Penicillium and Fusarium genus; 74 Aspergillus and 28 Penicillium isolates were tested for their ability to produce OTA. Only 2 A. alliaceus and 14 A. niger were able to synthesize OTA. However, none of Penicillium isolates can produce this toxin under the conditions mentioned. In respect of the effects of the temperature and water activity (aw), the optimal conditions for the growth and OTA production were different. While the optimal conditions of growth for A. alliaceus and A. terreus are 30 degrees C and 0.98 aw, A. niger preferred 0.93-0.95 aw at 25 degrees C, whereas the optimal production of OTA was observed at 30 degrees C for both A. alliaceus and A. niger at 0.93 and 0.99 aw, respectively. 相似文献

Fungi contaminating foods and feeds may produce many mycotoxins including ochratoxin A (OTA). Early and rapid detection of potential OTA producing fungi is important to reduce the negative impacts of OTA. In this study, two PCR specific primer pairs, AoLC35-12L/AoLC35-12R and AoOTAL/AoOTAR, were designed from a DNA sequence of a polyketide synthase gene in Aspergillus ochraceus NRRL 3174. On 14 different fungi tested by PCR, AoLC35-12L/AoLC35-12R amplified a unique band from either OTA or citrinin producers while AoOTAL/AoOTAR amplified one PCR product only from A. ochraceus. So these primers could be used to detect both OTA and citrinin producing fungi (AoLC35-12L/AoLC35-12R) or only A. ochraceus (AoOTAL/AoOTAR) from foodstuffs using PCR method. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: In Equatorial Guinea, as a result of the recent growth of the oil industry, there is an opportunity to address important public health problems through public and private initiatives. To propose effective nutrition and public health strategies, it is important first to have reliable information on the nutritional status of the population and the underlying factors affecting it. OBJECTIVE: To assess the nutritional status and the prevalence of anemia among Equatoguinean children in a nationally representative sample and to identify the risk factors associated with the nutritional problems detected. METHODS: The study was a cross-sectional survey using a multistaged, stratified, cluster-selected sample. The survey included a sociodemographic, health, and dietary questionnaire and measurement of hematocrit and anthropometric features, from which nutritional indicators based on the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) reference and the World Health Organization (WHO) standards were calculated. Logistic regression models were used for the multivariate analysis. A total of 552 children aged 0 to 60 months were surveyed. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of stunting (< -2 height-for-age z-scores [HAZ]) was 29.7% based on the NCHS reference and 35.2% based on WHO standards; the risk factors associated with stunting were age (p < .0001), low socioeconomic status (p = .01), and fishing by a member of the household (p = .003) The prevalence of mild anemia (hemoglobin < 110 g/L) was 69.3%, and that of moderate or severe anemia (hemoglobin < 80 g/L) was 8.3%. The only significant risk factor associated with moderate to severe anemia was low household socioeducational level (p = .01). CONCLUSIONS: Stunting and anemia are public health problems in Equatorial Guinea. Integrated strategies, including fighting poverty and improving maternal education, should be undertaken. 相似文献
